FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Huerfano Community Corporation Awarded Grant from Colorado Health Foundation

CHF Funding to Launch Co-Op & Enhance Community Health

GARDNER, CO. – October 16, 2023 - Huerfano Community Corporation (HCC), a dedicated small rural non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life in Huerfano County, proudly announces the receipt of a generous grant from The Colorado Health Foundation. This substantial grant will enable HCC to further its health, education, and housing mission by launching an innovative project to enhance the community's foundational health.

The Colorado Health Foundation investment will empower HCC to establish a holistic approach to community well-being through the creation of a multifaceted grocery store, gas station, and community kitchen facility. This project aligns with our organization's core values, which emphasize the importance of access to fresh and nutritious food, community engagement, and improved health outcomes for all residents of Huerfano County.

"On behalf of the newly re-established Board of Directors of the Huerfano Community Corporation, we are honored and grateful for the support The Colorado Health Foundation is providing and the shared vision for the continuing development of equitable access within our community," said a Representative of HCC’s Board. "This grant will allow us to address the critical need for foundational health improvements in our rural community, where access to essential resources does not exist. We enthusiastically anticipate the positive changes this award and the future works of our reinvigorated Board members will bring to our community.  We intend to facilitate a thriving, healthy, safe, and self-sustaining environment in partnership with The Colorado Health Foundation and invite our community to join in this effort."

This initiative aligns with HCC's longstanding commitment to improving the overall well-being of Huerfano County by addressing key social determinants of health, such as access to nutritious food, education, and affordable housing.

"The Huerfano County Board of County Commissioners would like to express our deep gratitude to The Colorado Health Foundation for supporting community development in Gardner by awarding a grant to the Huerfano Community Corporation. We also want to acknowledge the tireless effort by the Corporation and its board in seeking this grant - this opportunity would not have happened without your energy and vision, and we greatly appreciate, support, and share your commitment to improving our community’s quality of life!"

HCC extends heartfelt gratitude to The Colorado Health Foundation for their dedication to promoting the health and well-being of rural communities in Colorado as well as support from the Huerfano County Commissioners, Administrator, Raymond Aguirre Community Center Advisory Board, SCCY, and other partners we’ll continue collaborating with in the future.
